KAILUA-KONA — Two teenage boys spearfishing in waters off Honuapo Wednesday were rescued after becoming distressed in the ocean nearly a quarter-mile offshore off the Ka‘u Coast.
Hawaii Fire Department rescue personnel responded about 12:25 p.m. from Pahala. Upon arrival at Whittington Beach Park 29 minutes later, they found the reporting party and Hawaii Police Department officers keeping watch of the two boys who were located approximately 400 yards offshore from the point of entry to the beach park.
Fire department personnel then made contact with divers offshore, who were able to assist the boys in swimming to shore, according to a media release. Once on land, the boys were assessed by medics and required no treatment.
